BAKED BEANS 
1 lb. great northern beans
3/4 c. white sugar
6-8 tbsp. bacon grease
Salt and pepper to taste

Sort beans, removing any discolored beans or lumps of sand. Rinse thoroughly. Soak beans overnight. Be sure to put enough water on them to keep them covered even after beans swell. Cook them the next day until soft. Saving the juice, drain the beans and add sugar and bacon grease, salt, and pepper. Add juice until about 1/4 inch over beans. Stir. Bake at 325 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours or until firm and brown. Do not let them dry out.
