APPLE DUMPLINGS 
SHORTCAKE DOUGH:

1 c. flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
1/2 c. milk

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix with shortening. Stir in milk to make soft dough.

Roll crust 1/8 inch thick, 7 inches square. Pare and core medium apples. Place apple in center of dough, add 2 tablespoons sugar, pinch of cinnamon, 1 tablespoon butter, roll crust up around apple. Place apple in baking dish.

SYRUP FOR 4:
2/3 c. sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1 1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Bring to boil, pour slowly over each apple, then fill baking dish half full. Bake at 425 degrees for 40-45 minutes until golden brown or apples tender.
