RED VELVET CAKE 
1 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 oz. red food coloring
3 eggs
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. vinegar

Cream, Crisco, sugar and eggs. Make a paste of food coloring and cocoa and add to first mixture. Add salt, flour, buttermilk, and vanilla. Mix well. Mix in vinegar and soda, but don't beat. Bake in two 9 inch pans at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

ICING:

4 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1 stick butter
1/2 c. Crisco
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine flour, milk and cook over medium heat until thick and smooth. Cool, then cream until fluffy. Combine sugar, butter, Crisco and vanilla, and cream well. Add to flour mixture and beat until like whipped cream.
