RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 oz. red food coloring
2 or 3 tbsp. chocolate syrup
1 tsp. vinegar
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream Crisco and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each. Add coloring and syrup; mix. Sift flour and salt. Add flour, vanilla and milk; mix well. Sprinkle soda over batter. Pour vinegar over batter and mix (stir). Bake at 350 degrees in 3 layer pans, or in rectangle pan 20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

FROSTING:

4 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
1 stick butter
1/2 c. Crisco
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla

Cook flour and milk until dough-like. Let cool. Cream butter, Crisco and sugar. Mix with flour mixture and beat! Add vanilla and beat more.
