RED VELVET CAKE DELUXE 
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 oz. red food coloring
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vinegar

Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Make paste of food coloring and cocoa. Add to the above. Sift flour and salt; add alternately with milk. Beat well. Combine vinegar and soda; add at once. Beat well. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

ICING:

5 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
1 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. butter

Cook flour and milk together. Cover and let cool. Cream sugar and butter well. Add vanilla. When flour mixture is cooled, add to the sugar and butter. Beat well.
