If you're cooking it on high you might not want to leave it on for 3 hours. It burned a little bit on the bottom.

Have made this with spice cake, cinnamon chips and subbed apple sauce for oil. Always yummy!

This cake RULES!!! I lined the crock with parchment paper before cooking and the cake lifts right out with ease. Without the paper its a bit of a challenge -- Get creative with this cake - there are no limitations to what you can make!!

OMG! Amazing cake - and only limited by your imagination. I have made the chocolate with coffee instead of water, then tried lemon cake mix with lemon pudding and lemonade instead of water; next came red velvet cake with chocolate pudding and chocolate chips (delicious). Next I am going to try German chocolate cake mix with chocolate pudding, brickle chips and coconut. Then I am going to try spice cake with butterscotch pudding and butterscotch chips. Everyone at work LOVES theses cakes!

Would it still be good lightened up do you think? ie light/ fat free sour cream and/or sugar free pudding?

Where do I find a crock pot cake pan? Have looked in my local stores and to no avail. Thanks, Angela

I've collected a mountain of these things over the years. You'll find them in Salvation Army and Goodwill type stores. They are golden metal round cans with a lid which has vents. That's why old coffee cans work too. I bet eBay has a bunch.

I tried this recipe when i was waiting on my oven to be fixed. I came across this crock pot cake everyone in my family couldnt believe how good it was, now im being asked to make it for birthdays and family gatherings. The only thing is its very hard to get it out of the pot without it falling apart. Anyone have any ideas? i tried cooking spray but it burnt the sides.

Use a crock pot liner.

After reading the previous reviews I just had to let you know that you can get the cake out in one piece w/o spooning. Generously spray the crock pot, then when cake is done and has set for a little bit; outline the cake with a skinny knife to get it loose from the edges. Put a plate over the top of the pot and turn it upside down. I cooked the cake on low for 5 hours, turned off crock pot and let set for another hour before taking it out. Considering I like bakery cakes best, this cake was pretty good! Worth a try!

I have made this and its great. This version of it doesn't call for a box of pudding (though I used pudding added mix) It was a little more solid that my last attempt... a good thing really. Try adding instant coffee (1 tsp.) or coffee for the water. I also switched out Greek yogurt for the sour cream ('cause its what I had) cooked at high for only an hour, then 2 more on low and then 2 more on warm. If you cook it for the time suggested, I think most crockpots will scorch it.

I have been making this cake for a few years now! It's easy, convenient and delicious. I take it to work and cook it while there. Makes the aroma in the office amazing and everyone enjoyed the cake!

I made this IN the office, made in a crock pot on my desk. Came out perfect and the buildup from everyone in the area smelling chocolate cake was great.

Excellent! Made my house smell so good and is so moist and delish! I just need to figure out how to make the sides stay as moist as the middle... My crock pot doesn't seal well enough I think.

We cooked it for the 3 hours on high, then turned off the crockpot and left the cake overnight. The next day it was a firmer, dense and rich cake. Could have lifted it out of the pot to put on a plate if I wished--it didn't make it that far!!
