FILLED SUGAR COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Blend flour, salt and soda. Cover and chill for 1 hour.

ORANGE FILLING:

1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. orange peel
1/4 c. cornstarch
1 1/2 c. orange juice
2 tbsp. butter

Mix sugar, cornstarch and salt in medium saucepan. Gradually stir orange juice into sugar mixture. Cook over medium heat. Stir constantly until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 2 minutes. Stir in orange peel and butter. Cool thoroughly.

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Roll dough 1/16 inches thick and cut 3 inch circles. Fill 1/2 with 1 teaspoon filling and fold over. Press edges together and brush with milk. Sprinkle with sugar then bake 8-10 minutes until lightly browned.

Makes 3 dozen cookies.
