1/2 c. soft shortening
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. grated lemon peel
1 egg
2 tbsp. milk
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease a baking sheet. Mix in large bowl shortening, sugar and lemon peel. Blend in egg and milk.

Stir together flour, baking powder, salt and soda. Mix dry ingredients into shortening mixture. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on baking sheet.

Grease the bottom of a glass. To flatten each cookie, dip glass in colored sugar and press on dough. Bake 8-10 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool on wire rack. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
