CUCUMBER PICKLES 
7 lbs. (1/8 inch slices) cucumbers
2 gal. lime water
5 lbs. sugar
5 pts. vinegar
1 tsp. each of cloves, allspice, ginger, celery seed, mace, cinnamon

Soak cucumber slices in 2 gallons of lime water (3 cups lime to 2 gallons of water). Drain and soak for 4 hours in plain water, changing the water every hour. Drain well. Make syrup of sugar, vinegar and spices, bring to a boil then pour over cucumbers and let stand overnight. Boil all together next morning for 1 hour, stirring after so as to cook evenly. Put in small jars and seal.
