PORK CHOP AND SAUERKRAUT
CASSEROLE
 
2 lg. tart red apples pared, cored and cut in 1/4 inch slices
1 c. chopped onion
1 (1 lb.) can sauerkraut
1/4 c. sugar
4 pork chops
Salt
Pepper

Place apples in bottom of 3 quart casserole. Top with layer of onion and then sauerkraut. Sprinkle with sugar. Season pork chops with salt and pepper to taste. Brown well on both sides in skillet, adding cooking oil if necessary. Place browned chops on top of sauerkraut. Cover. Bake in 350 degrees oven 1 hour 15 minutes. Remove cover, bake 15 minutes more. Serves 4. Meats may vary using pork chops, ham or sausage.

This is an excellent recipe. I have given it to many friends who love it. The combination of the apple and onion makes a delicious combination to the with the sauerkraut . The brown sugar adds to meld the flavours
I found the cooking time too long.. I did 45 minutes plus 15 minutes with lid off. ENJOY
