OLD-TIME POUND CAKE 
1 1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 3/4 c. all purpose flour
8 eggs
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla or lemon extract

Cream butter. Add sugar gradually and beat until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating vigorously after each addition. Sift flour; measure and sift again with salt and baking powder. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with eggs and flavoring. beat mixture until it is light enough to float when a little is dropped in water.

Pour into greased tube loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. This is a cake of golden yellow color and a favorite of Grandmother's day.
