DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE | |
2 c. sugar 1 stick butter 4 eggs 2 c. plain flour 3 heaping tsp. Hershey's cocoa 1/4 tsp. salt 1 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. baking soda (put in buttermilk) 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and cream well. Add rest of ingredients and fold in. Bake in 3 (9-inch layer) pans at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Let cool and ice. ICING: 3 c. brown sugar 1/2 stick butter 1 c. sweet milk 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring 3 heaping tsp. Hershey's cocoa Dissolve cocoa in cup with just enough water to make it dissolve. Cook all ingredients on top of stove on low heat, stirring constantly. After it begins to thicken, test it in a 1/2 cup of water until it forms a ball. Remove from heat and continuing stirring until able to spread on layers. |
