4 to 5 lbs. round steak 4 to 6 onions 1 tbsp. Crisco Salt, pepper, paprika Celery & carrots (opt.) Brown meat on all sides in Dutch oven in the oven (450 degrees). Add onions, salt, pepper, paprika, celery and carrots (optional). Cover and cook at 350 degrees for three hours. When meat is done, thicken gravy with flour (Wonder), water and 1/2 cup ketchup. TO MAKE SAUERBRATEN: Cover meat with 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 water, pickling spice, peppercorns, celery and carrots and let it sit on meat for 3 to 4 days in refrigerator. Make same as pot roast. Can add 1/2 cup of marinade when cooking. |
