ELSIE'S DATE BREAD 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. chopped dates
2 c. boiling water
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
4 c. flour
1 c. chopped nuts

Cream sugar, Crisco, eggs and vanilla. Combine boiling water with baking soda and salt. Pour over dates. Beat flour into creamed mixture, alternating with date mixture. Add nuts.

Grease and flour (or use Pam) 6 or 7 vegetable cans. Fill cans a little over 1/2 full. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes.
