WEDDING COOKIES
Dough Ingredients:

1/2 cup Crisco
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
3 ½ cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
Anise seed to taste (tablespoon)

Frosting Ingredients:

1/2 cup HOT milk and enough powdered sugar to make mixture into a frosting texture.

Optional Frosting Ingredients:

heaping tablespoon soft butter
2 cups powdered sugar

Add milk slowly to make right consistency, add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix, if too thin, add more sugar.

Cream Crisco and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time to the creamed mixture, then baking powder, salt, vanilla, and milk until creamy texture. Add anise seek and flour. Form dough into 1/2 inch rope and shape cookie (about 3 turns of rope), or scoop small 1/2 ball (use melon scoop).

Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and cool. Cookie will NOT be browned, except on bottom where it touches the cookie sheet. Frost with mixture of icing made with Powdered Sugar and Hot Milk Frosting. Make sure milk is Hot – makes frosting glossy. You can also add colored sprinkles to frosting or food coloring.

Fantastic recipe! I used the milk & powdered sugar frosting. A huge hit with my family. We grew up eating anise cookies & pizelles so this is a much loved memory for us. Thanks for sharing your recipe Cheryl.
