POUND SPONGE CAKE 
2 c. sugar
4 large eggs
1 c. milk
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla

Put sugar into a bowl. Beat eggs into sugar, one at a time. While doing this, place milk in a saucepan and add butter. Heat until butter has melted and milk has started to boil. Add flour to egg mixture, then add hot milk-butter mixture. Stir until smooth. Sprinkle baking powder over top of batter. Add vanilla. Stir both in. Pour into an ungreased 10-inch tube pan (batter will be very thin). Bake in a 375°F degree oven for 45 minutes.
