Knorr also makes a Sauerbraten mix. Have only used it stove top but it's 90% as good as the traditional recipe and 10% of the time and work. I'll try it with the crock pot.

My husband thought that this roast was the best meal I have ever made in 15 years of marriage!!! The only thing I would change it the type of roast, the chuck roast was a little fatty for my family. Thanks for a great recipe!

I suggest you trim the chuck roast with a very sharp knife leaving some fat but a lesser amount more acceptable to your famil. Better to do that then switch meat which has too much connective tissue. Chuck roast is easy to trim - that's what I was doing at 12 midnight last night. I took 3/4 of fat off. Result looks fabulous. My family definitely doesn't like greasy food. Make corn starch and water slurry and add slowly to liquid after you take all food out. Use a frying pan maybe. Do it super slow and you'll have nice gravy.

This was a great recipe. I as well used the cream of chicken and chicken broth. Excellent!! I also added potatoes, carrots, and thickened with corn starch.
