BANANA CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 well beaten eggs
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. sour milk
1 1/2 c. mashed bananas (4 or 5)
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream fat until soft. Add sugar gradually. Cream until fluffy. Add the well beaten eggs and beat vigorously. Add sifted dry ingredients. Blending bananas and soda with sour milk. Bake in 2 (9") layer pans for 30 to 35 minutes at 375 degrees. When cool spread with Caramel Icing.

CARAMEL ICING:

2 tbsp. thick cream
1 tbsp. butter
2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. water

Put cream and butter in bowl; add water to brown sugar and boil to soft ball stage, then add to the butter and sugar and beat.
