2 c. flour
1 c. whole wheat flour
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. sugar
3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
3/4 c. cold butter
1 egg, beaten
1 c. milk (use buttermilk if you have it)

Combine dry ingredients. Cut in butter with fingertips. Combine egg and milk, stir in briefly. Knead on floured surface until dough can be handled. Roll or pat to 1" (nice and thick) thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter, place on greased cookie sheet and bake at 425 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes.
