DIXIE DRESSING | |
3/4 c. onion, chopped 12 c. coarse bread crumbs 1 1/2 c. celery, chopped 1 tbsp. salt 1 tbsp. parsley flakes 1 tsp. pepper 1 tbsp. oregano 1 tbsp. dried sage Poultry seasoning to taste 1/3 lb. fresh pork sausage, scrambled, saving fat 2 lg. potatoes, chopped Turkey, cooked (optional) Chicken, cooked (optional) Cover celery, onion, potatoes with water and cook until almost done. In a large bowl, mix all other ingredients well and add mixture of celery, onion, and potatoes. Make sure by tasting the dressing, that the seasoning is to your taste before cooking. You may add more and different spices to suit you. You may add more water if you would like to make a moist dressing. Place in a covered baking pan and cook at 350 degrees for 1 hour removing the cover the last 15 minutes of the cooking time. Cooked turkey and chicken may be added if you like before cooking. This dressing is ideal for stuffing a chicken or turkey before cooking. |
