DUTCH APPLE CAKE 
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 to 3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. or more of shortening
1 egg
2/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

TOP DRESSING:

3 apples, cut in 1/16
1 tsp. cinnamon
4 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. butter

Cut shortening into dry ingredients. Add beaten egg and vanilla to milk. Combine with dry ingredients. Spread in shallow bread pan 10 x 6 x 1 1/2 inch. Spread top with melted butter.

Press apples into dough points down. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Bake 25 to 30 minutes in hot oven (400 degrees). Serves six. May be served with or without sauce.
