BEST EVER HOTDOG SAUCE
3 lbs hamburger
24 oz. tomato puree
24 oz. tomato paste
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup mustard
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups chopped onions
3 tbsp. chili powder
3 tbsp. garlic powder (or less; see note)
1 tsp. salt

Sauté onions in a few drops of oil until clear; then brown the hamburger with the onions.

Cooks Note: Original recipe did not call for oil, but our test kitchen used it in the sauté; we also substituted 4 cloves minced fresh garlic for the garlic powder. If garlic powder is used, season to taste; some may find 3 tablespoons overpowering, but the original recipe is included for authenticity.

Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 10 minutes. Recipe may be cut in half if a large amount is not needed or freeze leftover in small containers to use in portions.

This is a very old recipe passed down from generations. You have to try it to believe how wonderful it is!
