ORANGE/CRANBERRY BREAD 
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. orange juice
2 tbsp. boiling water
2 tbsp. melted shortening
1 egg, well beaten
2 c. fresh whole cranberries
1/2 c. nuts

Sift together the first 5 dry ingredients; place in large bowl. Combine orange juice, water, shortening and egg; add to dry ingredients. Fold in cranberries and nuts.

Bake in greased and floured loaf pan at 350°F for 50 to 60 minutes.

Makes one loaf.

Topping:

2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. orange rind

Combine sugar and orange rind; sprinkle on top of loaf and bake for 10 more minutes. Cool on wire rack.
