SWISS - CHICKEN - HAM BAKE | |
1 c. chopped onion 4 tbsp. butter 6 tbsp. flour 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 4 tbsp. dry cooking sherry 2 cans mushrooms, undrained (2 -3 oz. size) 2 c. half & half 2 (5 oz.) cans sliced water chestnuts, drained 4 c. cooked chicken, cubed 2 c. cooked ham, cubed 1 c. shredded Swiss cheese 3 c. soft bread crumbs 6 tbsp. melted butter Cook onion in the 4 tablespoons butter until tender but not brown. Blend in flour, salt and pepper. Add sherry, half and half and undrained mushrooms. Cook and stir until thickened. Add chicken, ham and water chestnuts. Pour into 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Mix bread crumbs and melted butter and sprinkle over top. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the crumbs. Bake at 400 degrees for about 40 minutes, until lightly brown. Serves 8. |
