GRANDMA'S GERMAN LEBKUCHEN 
2 c. white sugar
1 c. corn syrup
1 c. honey
4 tbsp. wine or orange or lemon juice
1 c. butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1/4 c. warm water
1 tsp. baking powder
Enough flour to make a stiff dough
1/2 c. finely chopped citron
1 c. chopped almonds

Cream sugar, syrup, honey, and butter until smooth. Add wine or juice; beat. Add enough flour to make a stiff dough. Roll out dough as for sugar cookies, on floured board and cut into 1 x 2 inch rectangles. Bake about 15 minutes at 350 degrees until light brown. Glaze cookies with thin confectioners sugar icing and top with an almond slice.
