SCONES 
3 c. flour
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. cream of tartar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter or shortening
3/4 c. milk
1 egg
1/2 c. currants

Mix dry ingredients together. Cut in butter. Mix milk and egg, then add to dry ingredients. Gently stir in the currants. Roll about 1/4 inch thick on floured board. Cut into triangle or diamond shapes. Place on greased cookie sheet. Brush tops with a little milk, and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
