ENGLISH TOFFEE 
2 1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. white corn syrup
1/2 c. water
4 cubes (1 lb.) butter
1-2 lbs. nuts
2 giant Hershey bars

Combine ingredients in heavy pan; let boil rapidly, then turn to medium low; stir until thick; then leave alone for 35 to 45 minutes.

To Test: Put a small amount of candy in cold water and when it hardens chew it. IF it crunches, it is done; if it is the least bit chewy it is not done. Butter 12"x18" cookie sheet. Break nuts. Put 1/3 nuts on cookie sheet. Pour candy over nuts. Let set until somewhat firm; then pour melted giant Hershey bar over top and sprinkle 1/3 crushed nuts over it. Let candy set for 1/2 hour; then turn candy over and repeat with another Hershey bar (melted) and nuts. Let set overnight or put in refrigerator for several hours. Break in pieces.
