FRUIT CAKE 
1 1/2 c. butter or Crisco
3 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. mace
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. sour cream or buttermilk
1/2 c. molasses (Duffs)
6 eggs
4 c. flour, divided
1/2 c. brandy or fruit juice

Combine butter and brown sugar until creamy. Add spices and stir well. Dissolve soda in sour cream or buttermilk and add molasses. Mix with sugar mixture. Add eggs, 1 at a time, stirring after each addition. Sift flour and add 3 cups to above mixture with the brandy or fruit juice.

FRUIT MIXTURE:

1 lb. raisins
1 lb. currants
1 lb. mixed fruit
1 lb. nuts

Using the 4th cup of flour, coat the fruit mixture well. Add to the batter and combine until fruit is well mixed. Grease and line pans with foil. Bake 1 1/2 hours at 325 degrees.
