1 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. hot water
2 c. oatmeal
1 c. chocolate chips

1. Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well.

2. Combine other ingredients in separate bowl. Mix well.

3. Add flour and oatmeal mixture to sugar-shortening mixture a little bit at a time. Stir until well combined.

4. Place 1/3 cup of mixture onto greased cookie sheet. Space cookies 6 inches apart.

5. Bake in 350 degree oven for 14 minutes. Makes 14 cookies.
