RUSSIAN ROCKS 
4 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c. shortening
3 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 3 tbsp. hot water
5 1/2 - 6 c. flour
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 c. broken pecans
1 c. raisins
1 c. candied cherries

Heat the shortening and pour over the brown sugar. Add the 3 beaten eggs. In the first 3 cups of above mentioned flour, add the spices and a dash of salt. Stir flour into sugar mixture. Bake sample to see if the dough is thick enough. Add more flour if necessary. Then add pecans and fruits. Drop by teaspoonfuls on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for about 12 to 15 minutes.

NOTE: This is a very old recipe. It is a delicious spicy Christmas cookie. Makes 2 gallons of cookies. Recipe can easily be cut in half.

I think this may be my mother's recipe. Yea! My parents made them every Christmas. They were dark brown so using brown sugar rather white is what got my attention. My father always used an eye dropper to soak them in a bit bourbon. Yum!
