BATTER BREAD 
2 pkgs. dry yeast
2 1/4 c. warm water
6 1/2 c. flour
3 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. soft shortening

Sprinkle yeast on water. Let stand a few minutes then stir until dissolved. Add 3 1/4 cups flour, sugar, salt and shortening. Mix well and then beat for 2 minutes. Add 3 1/4 cups flour until well blended. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes. Stir batter, beating hard, about 1/2 minute. Spread into 2 greased 9"x5"x3" loaf pans. Pat down with greased hand. Let rise until doubled (about 20 minutes). Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.

May use 2 cups whole wheat flour for white.

Absolutely delicious toasted with cream cheese, jams, honeys and/or all those goodies.
