STEAM PUDDING 
1/2 c. suet, finely chopped or ground
1 egg
1 sm. can milk
1/2 c. molasses
1 tsp. baking soda
1 lb. raisins (soaked and drained)
1 c. flour (approx. - batter should be rather stiff)

Combine molasses and soda (to foam). Mix all ingredients and place in a greased round double boiler pan and steam for 2 hours. Top with Vanilla Sauce for serving. Don't use electric mixer.

VANILLA SAUCE:

1/2 c. sugar
1 c. boiling water
1 tbsp. cornstarch
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix sugar and cornstarch. Add water, cook to thicken then add butter, vanilla and salt.
