SPLIT PEA SOUP 
1 ham bone or hunk of ham
2 c. split peas, washed
3 qt. water
1 1/2 c. diced carrots
1 1/2 c. diced celery
2 diced potatoes
1/4 onion, minced
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper

Boil ham, peas, and water together for 2 hours. Remove bone or hunk of ham and dice. Return meat to pot and add other ingredients. Cook until vegetables are tender, about 20 minutes.
