AMERICAN POTAGE 
1 lb. hamburger
1 c. finely cut up carrots
1 c. celery
1 c. finely cut up onions
1 c. finely cut up potatoes
8 c. boiling water
Salt and pepper to taste

Brown ground beef in a little hot fat in a heavy kettle. Add 4 cups hot water and simmer 1/2 hour. Add carrots, celery, onions and potatoes and 2 to 4 cups more boiling water. Cover. Simmer 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender. 6 servings.
