BASQUE SOUP 
3 lb. ground beef
2 lg. onions
3 stalks celery
3 lg. carrots
Croutons or sm. pieces toasted bread
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cloves garlic
1 whole clove
6 med. potatoes
1 qt. tomatoes

Brown ground beef. Pour off excess fat. Add all vegetables, finely chopped, and tomatoes, garlic, and clove. Add water as desired. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Season and stir during simmering. Serve with croutons, or toasted pieces of bread.
