GRAPENUT BREAD 
1 1/2 c. milk, scalded
1/2 c. flat beer
1 c. Grapenuts
3 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg, well beaten
3 tbsp. shortening, melted
1 tsp. salt

Combine beer and milk. Pour over Grapenuts. Cool. Sift together the dry ingredients. Add to the Grapenut mixture. Add egg and shortening, stirring with a fork only to moisten the flour. Turn into a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. Leave to stand 20 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 20 minutes. May glaze if desired. Serves 8.
