COCONUT CHEWS 
3/4 c. shortening
3/4 c. confectioners' sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
2 eggs
1 c. brown sugar, packed
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. walnuts
1/2 c. flaked coconut

Heat oven at 350 degrees. Cream shortening and confectioners' sugar. Blend in 1 1/2 cups flour. Press evenly in bottom of ungreased 9x13x2 inch baking pan. Bake 12 to 15 minutes.

Mix remaining ingredients; spread over hot baked layer and bake 20 minutes longer. While warm, spread with Orange-Lemon Icing.

ORANGE-LEMON ICING:

Mix 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, 2 tablespoons butter, melted, 3 tablespoons orange juice and 1 tablespoon lemon juice until smooth and of spreading consistency. Cool; cut into bars, about 3x1 inches. Makes 32 bars.
