CAKE WITHOUT EGGS, MILK, OR
BUTTER
 
5 tbsp. shortening
2 1/2 c. hot water
2 1/2 c. raisins
2 1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 1/2 tsp. cloves
2 1/2 tsp. baking soda

2 1/2 c. self-rising flour
2 1/2 c. brown sugar

1. Combine all ingredients except flour and sugar.

2. Bring to boil, let boil 5 minutes. Let mixture cool.

3. Add flour and sugar, mix well. Pour into greased 9 x 13 pie pan.

4. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until done (test with toothpick).

FROSTING:

While cake is cooking, boil lightly 1 stick butter, 2 tablespoons cocoa, 6 tablespoons milk. Remove from heat and add 1 box confectioners sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 cup chopped nuts. Beat well. Pour over hot cake.
