NO EGGS, MILK, OR BUTTER CAKE 
1 lb. seeded raisins
2 c. water
1/2 c. lard or Crisco
2 c. sugar
1 c. cold water
4 c. flour
1 tbsp. salt
1 tbsp. ground cloves
1 tbsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped nuts

Sift together flour, salt, cloves, and soda. Cook raisins in 2 cups water, then add shortening, cold water, sugar. Put the sifted ingredients together with creamed ingredients. Do not use a mixer for this cake. Fold in nuts. Put in greased 9x13 inch or large tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until done. Test with a cake tester.
