FIG CAKE 
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. cooking oil
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped nuts
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
3 eggs
1 c. fig preserves
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 tsp. cloves

Sift together flour, salt, soda, sugar, and spices. Add oil and beat well. Add one egg at a time, beating after each egg. Add buttermilk gradually add fig preserves, nuts, and vanilla. Mix well and pour into loaf pan, bundt pan, or tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees about 1 1/2 hours (if oven bakes fast use 325 degrees). Pour sauce (below) over cake while still hot.

SAUCE FOR FIG CAKE:

1/2 c. sugar
1/2 stick butter
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. light corn syrup
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/4 c. buttermilk

Mix all ingredients together and boil for 3 minutes.
