EGG & CHEESE STRATA 
6 slices day old bread
3 tbsp. butter, softened
1 c. cheddar cheese, shredded
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1 1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper

Butter bread; cut in small cubes. Alternate layers of bread cubes and cheese in buttered 2 quart casserole. Blend eggs, milk and seasonings, pour over bread and cheese mixture. Cover. Refrigerate several hours or overnight. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 70 minutes or until golden brown.

My favorite comfort breakfast. I used to make it long ago and i lost the recipe, so I'm glad to find this. I do two things differently: I add a small amount of chili powder to the eggs mixture; I cut the buttered bread into triangles and make enough to line the casserole dish all the way around - it will look like a crown, and they will toast nicely.
