1 1/2 c. milk 1 tsp. salt 2 pkgs. dry yeast Oil for frying 2 tbsp. sugar 6 tbsp. shortening 4 c. flour SUGAR MIXTURE: 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon Heat together but do not boil, milk, sugar, salt and shortening until melted. Cool mixture to lukewarm. Add yeast, stir until dissolved. Stir in flour, 2 cups at a time, beating until smooth. Place in greased bowl; cover with damp cloth. Let rise until doubled, approximately 30 minutes. Heat oil until 350 degrees. Dust hands with flour. Pinch off pieces of dough about the size of a golf ball. Stretch dough pieces into a thin 6" to 8" circle. Drop this into oil. Fry until it rises to surface, turn and fry other side until golden. Remove, drain and sprinkle with sugar mixture. |
