MARBLE POUND CAKE 
1 c. shortening
3 c. sugar
6 eggs
3 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 (5.5 oz.) can chocolate syrup

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add one egg at a time, beating well. Sift flour, salt, and soda. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla, blend well.

Pour half the butter mixture into a well-greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. Add chocolate syrup to remaining batter. Pour chocolate mixture over top of other batter. Take a knife and run through the batter to make a marble pattern.

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes. (This depends on your stove.) Cool on wire rack. Frost as desired.
