PEAR UPSIDE DOWN CAKE | |
3 tbsp. butter 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 3 or 4 pear halves sliced length-wise (canned) 5 maraschino cherries (optional) 1/3 cup shortening 1 egg 1 1/4 cups flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. ginger 1/4 tsp. cloves 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 cup light molasses, 1/2 cup boiling water Melt butter in an 8-inch square pan. Add 1/4 cup of the brown sugar. Arrange pears and cherries over sugar mixture. Cream shortening and remaining sugar; add the egg mix well. Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt. Combine molasses and water; add alternating with dry ingredients to make a creamy mixture. Spread over pears. Bake at 350°F 45 to 50 minutes Or until done. Cool 5 minutes, then turn out onto dish and serve with whipped cream. This is a great pear recipe - hard to find..... Submitted by: Marilyn G |
