5 c. chopped apples
1 c. chopped nuts
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. melted butter
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Cream sugar and butter. Add egg, cinnamon, flour, nutmeg, and soda to sugar mixture, then add apples and nuts last. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla sauce.

VANILLA SAUCE:

3/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. cornstarch
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. boiling water
1 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook until thickened.
