CARMEN'S SPLIT PEAS SOUP 
1 pkg. green split peas (dry)
1 c. chopped tomatoes
1/2 c. chopped onions
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tbsp. corn oil
1 tsp. oregano, crushed
Salt to taste
10 coriander leaves (fresh, cilantro)

Wash and cook split peas with enough water and salt to taste. Cook until they are soft. Add water as you cook it then in a pan saute onions until golden color, then add chopped tomatoes, chopped coriander leaves and oregano. Add this mixture to peas already cooked, simmer for 15 more minutes. Serves 6 persons.
