BROWN BEAUTY CAKE 
2 sq. unsweetened chocolate (2 oz.), cut up
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. sifted Softasilk cake flour
1 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. soft shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1/4 c. sweet milk, sour milk or buttermilk

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease well and dust with flour, a square pan 8x8x2 inches. Stir chocolate and water in mixing bowl until chocolate is melted. Cool. Sift dry ingredients together and stir into chocolate. Add shortening. Beat 1 more minute at medium speed on mixer. Bake 35-40 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.

FROSTING:

6 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
2 tbsp. butter
1 c. sifted confectioners sugar
3 tbsp. milk

Combine chocolate pieces, butter and milk in saucepan. Stir over low heat until chocolate is just melted. Remove from heat; stir in confectioners sugar. Beat until smooth, glossy and easy to spread. If not glossy, stir in a few drops of hot water.
