OLD FASHIONED SOUTHERN
STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE
 
1 qt. fresh strawberries, cleaned and washed or 1 qt. frozen may be used
Add 1/2 c. sugar

SHORTCAKE:

2 c. flour
1/2 c. shortening
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. warm water

Mix shortcake ingredients together until feels consistency of cornmeal. Add water. Roll out and cut into squares. Lay on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown. Allow to cool. Remove from cookie sheet. Break into bite size pieces in four individual dessert bowls. Spoon on strawberries on top and then top with whipped cream or Cool Whip.
