OLD FASHION STACK CAKE | |
3 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 c. shortening 1/2 c. sugar 1 c. molasses 2 eggs 1 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. vanilla 3 c. cooked dried apples or thick applesauce 1 tsp. ginger (optional) Mix flour, salt, soda and baking powder; set aside. Cream shortening. Add sugar and molasses and beat well. Add flour mixture and buttermilk alternately. Pour batter 3/8-inch thick in greased and floured pans. Makes 4 to 5 layers. Bake at 375°F for 18 to 20 minutes. When cool, stack, using cooked dried apples or thick applesauce between layers. |
