FUDGE NUT CAKE | |
1/2 c. shortening 2 c. sifted cake flour 1 tsp. baking soda 3/4 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. sugar 3/4 c. milk 2 eggs 3 sq. unsweetened chocolate 1 c. nuts, chopped Cream shortening. Add dry ingredients; mix well. Add 3/4 cup of milk. Beat 2 minutes. Add eggs, unsweetened chocolate (melted), remaining milk. Beat 1 minute. Add 1 cup nuts. Turn batter into greased pan 13 x 9 x 2 inches. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. This cake may be baked in two 9 inch layers in 375 degree oven for 25 minutes. Omit nuts in layers. Note: With butter, butter or lard, use 1 cup milk plus 2 tablespoons. With vegetable oil, use 1 1/4 cups milk. Cocoa may be substituted for chocolate. Sift 2/3 cup cocoa with dry ingredients. |
